These beans are extra dark and oily in appearance with a heavy dark roast aroma. I made 2 scoops with 12 ounces of water and added 2/3 of a cup of frothed milk to add some sweetness and creaminess. This coffee was very bold but not burnt tasting. It has dark chocolate notes and a little sweetness. I did not find it bitter and it had a very clean finish. This coffee has almost double the caffeine than my usual coffee and I could feel the extra energy after drinking the cup. I did not feel jittery or crash extra hard but I would not need a second cup.

This coffee is STRONG in the best way possible. You can absolutely tell this is robusta coffee because the caffeine kick is no joke. I drink coffee regularly and even I noticed the difference pretty quickly.

The flavor is bold, rich, and very dark chocolate forward. Definitely more of a darker roast profile, but not burnt tasting. I was expecting it to maybe be harsh since robusta sometimes gets that reputation, but I actually found it surprisingly smooth, especially with a little creamer added.

The aroma when you open the bag is amazing too. Very rich and chocolatey smelling. The beans themselves looked fresh and they ground well in my grinder.

One thing to note is that the bag I received was not resealable, so you’ll want a clip or separate container to keep the beans fresh after opening.

Overall, if you like bold coffee with a serious caffeine punch, this is excellent. I especially think this would make a great espresso or latte coffee because the strong flavor really stands up well to milk.

Strong flavored typical Vietnamese coffee, which is a good thing in my book. I am not one of those people who can talk about floral notes, chocolate, fruit in coffee. But I drink french press black coffee and know what I like. Strong coffee, little bitterness.

I made a cup with the Blu Ore Black Obsidian beans this morning and it really hit the spot. I love the aroma when I grind the beans and while it brews. The chocolate and cacao notes fill the kitchen and make the whole process feel calm and enjoyable. The medium dark roast works really well for me because it has a deep flavor without being harsh. The beans grind evenly and the smell alone tells me it is going to be a bold cup. The first sip is smooth, rich, and strong without any bitterness. It has a good caffeine kick but still tastes balanced. It has been a great morning coffee for me and one I would reach for again. Always a great value when I find a good coffee bean!

I'm not the biggest coffee snob, but this stuff is great. It seems pretty dark-roasty to me, as it has a rather strong taste. I typically drink my 'breakfast blends' black, but I added just a touch of milk and sugar to make this more palatable to me. It's really smooth though. The flavor and smell is great and very fresh. While it doesn't list the roasting date, the 'best by' date is still over a year from the day I received it.

Based on the price per ounce, each cup is probably 75c or so, which is a good enough value to me.

My only complaint is the bag isn't resealable, so make sure you have either a good clip to keep it fresh or a separate container for it.
